Go to a Staffing Agency

If you are like me and you moved to Vancouver because you wanted change, then i can tell you now you are not going to know what you want to do in terms of work. This is where i found that temping for a couple of months is the way to go. The benefits of this, is that someone else looks for a job for you and you are told when and where to turn up. This way you can focus your time on looking for a place to stay and really establishing your roots.

By seeing a staffing agency, they can put you on temporary assignments like Admin, Reception, Warehousing and even Banquet Serving. You name it, they can place you. A great company to get in contact with is TPD. TPD is located in the heart of Downtown Vancouver next to the Pacific Centre Mall and offers great services when placing people. The company has been operating for 36 years throughout North America. The staff at TPD take away the stress of looking for a job and put in all the effort for you. If you are new to Vancouver or even just looking for some temporary work, give TPD a call.

Check out Craigslist

Now if you are reading this and you are from Australia i know you would’ve heard all about Craigslist. However i don’t think we have heard all the best stories. There is even a horror movie call Creep about someone taking a job from Craigslist. If you read my about page, you would be familiar that Grant and I LOVE horror movies. But now we are getting side tracked. Back to the jobs!

Craigslist is great for finding jobs. Their jobs sections is organised into 33 categories ranging from Film and TV, Web design, Marketing, you name it, they’ve got it! I can guarantee that there will be a job posting on there for you. The negative i take away from Craigslist is how the website is laid out. As it is user friendly, it is quite dated so you will have to adjust. Also you will really need to dig deep when it comes to looking and also do your research on the places you are applying for.

Get your Network on

A great way to find some cool jobs is having a look on Social Media. My friend Chloe landed herself an awesome job here in Vancouver from finding the job posting through Instagram. Using a social media platform like Instagram and Linkedin is a unique way of finding jobs, it allows you to network with like minded people who are interested in similar fields. If you haven’t already make yourself a profile for both these sites and see what interesting finds you can locate around Vancouver or whatever city you are living in.

From my personal experience – Even though i am still at Uni and creating content for this blog i have to have income coming in from somewhere. My biggest suggestion would be come and temp and see what you like and get a feel for the city. Its a great place to start and can look great on your resume.

At the end of the day, Canada is a great place to come out and test the waters. The amount of jobs posting i have seen in Vancouver is monumental and there will be something out there for you. You just have to know where to look!
